Dr. Jenet Klyburn

S.T.A.R. Lab's Deputy Director, Dr. Jenet Klyburn was more of an acquaintance than a friend to Superman but while Dr. Albert Michaels was Director she was the only ally the Man of Steel had in their hierarchy. Michaels' hostility towards Superman was eventually discovered to have been because of his ties to the criminal organiation S.K.U.L.L. Fleeing via teleporter after he was discovered Michaels vowed to rebuild S.K.U.L.L. from the ashes Superman and Metallo's vendetta had made of it. With his exposure as a criminal Jenet became the new Director of S.T.A.R. and, although she hadn't guessed it, a target. As she found out the hard way in Superman 323 when S.K.U.L.L. returned.

Distracted by a collapsing building and a mysterious energy blast the saucer got away and Superman had to pursue.

Following her trail Superman was stunned by a run-in with Titano, the giant ape with kryptonite eyebeams. He recovered to find Dr. Michaels in his new identity, The Atomic Skull, vowing revenge for ruining S.K.U.L.L. before their scientists could cure his fatal brain disease. All his defective brain implant could do was generate powerful energy bursts rather than arrest the disease's progress and all the scientist who could correct it were in jail. He was a very bitter man. Michaels then directed Superman's attention to the monitor on the wall. One question that was never answered was since Jenet wasn't wearing that skintight jumpsuit when kidnapped just what were the circumstances under which she donned it? As a kid I found that rather suggestive.

Heading through the maze Superman ran into a few delaying tactics unaware he was setting up a deathtrap intended for him as he raced to free Jenet.

After freeing Jenet the Atomic Skull revealed that Superman had just launched a missile with a kryptonite dust payload that would detonate and surround the Earth with a deathcloud, slowly poisoning him. As you might have guessed that was cleared up a few issues later though Jenet was nearly shot by a S.K.U.L.L agent while Superman was off dealing with the missile and Titano. If Jenet Klyburn exists in the post-Crisis DC continuity I have no idea. If anyone knows please email me.
